Default Mesmer still dominates new builds

All this talk of the Asassin being "overpowered" are nonsense. A well played Mesmer can still shutdown any melee class or caster for that matter. It is my firm belief that the Mesmer is the most powerful class while simultaneously being the most overlooked. Many of you should consider going Mesmer since their weapons are cheaper and it is just downright fun to frustrate the hell out of your opponents. I have been using this particular build for the past week and have been owning everyone (especially Asassins):

Conjure Phantasm
Shatter Delusions
Backfire
Ineptitude
Shatter Enchantment
Cry of Frustration
Sympathetic Visage
Leech Signet/Clumsines/Arcane Echo

Ineptitude really debilatates any melee class as it interrupts AND causes blindness for 10 seconds. I cast Ineptitude as soon as they come for me. Once they are blinded I cast conjure and let it go for about 8-9 seconds (not the full 10 that my skill allows) and then cast shatter delusions. Follow up with another conjure and you have their monk working overtime (if they have one). Any good mesmer will tell you to not think single target, and the nice thing about this build is that you can spam or focus. As for taking down a ritualist, there is a bit more timing required. They dont cast spells, so backfire wont work. Taking down ritualists is all about health degen and interrupts. Cry of frustration works nicely combined with conjure. You can stick another lower energy spell like Power Spike in the last skill spot so you can interrupt twice in a row. Even nicer is to cast diversion and make their favorite skill take up to 50 sec to recharge.

I hope this build gives some insight into how to take down A and Rt in the pvp 4 v 4 arena. Just remember, Asassins may be able to teleport and look cool, but that doesnt matter when they are blinded and losing 5 hp/sec. Hehe. Enjoy and please leave some comments!

Any class can dominate another class with the right skills and the right player.

Conjure Phantasm doesnt make them lose 5hp a second, it give them 5 arrows of degen, which is actually 15hp a second.

Another thread trying to define goodness/badness by team arenas. Great.

Though I'll admit, should be more mesmers out there.

Each pip is 2 life per second to let you know. And Inepitude doesn't interrupt, it only interrupts that attack one attack if they choose to attack.

Hm hm...point being that something like, say, a Touch Ranger or similar such builds will shred Mesmers simply because, without the ability to mess with the foe, Mesmers got nuthin'. They are, hands down, the most controlling, frustrating class in the game, yes, but multitarget or no, you can't totally shut down everyone on the field :-P

Uhm, no it's actually 10 hp lost a second. Each arrow is 2 life per second, or 1/3 energy per second.

I started with a Mesmer and it has always been my favorite, but it is no where near the most 'powerful' class in the game. I have found that with most of my builds they need to be very specific in order to be effective and that means that one person of the wrong class can really mess me up. Unless, of course, the monk spends all his/her time on me. For Example the listed build is fairly well rounded but cannot always 'dominate' because it lacks focus in any one area.

still though, mesmer is my favorite... *sigh and begin daydreaming*

oh yeah, started daydreaming and forgot to say that the new classes aren't overpowered they just aren't well known. 1 person can know it really well and do outstanding against someone who knows only a few of the new profession's skills.

What would I put in that last slot, no questions asked? Res Sig.

If you cast Ineptitude before a player reaches you, that can easily react to it. I know if I was moving towards a mesmer, and I saw Ineptitude land on me, I'd run close up, but wait untill it wore off to attack. If it's cast on someone who's attacking you, they'll see it being cast, and can stop to avoid the blind/damage. I consider Sig of Midnight to be vastly superior at stoping melee players in CA.

yup, signet of midnight+plague touch for double blind.

also you must remember not ALL assassins/warriords are idiots. the smarter ones will either wait for ineptitude to wear off or they have plague touch/mend ailment ready

Apologize for the mistake with Conjure. However I have yet to encounter a player who will wait for Ineptitude to wear off because at the same time they are being attacked by other players. The skills like conjure are part of a method I use to try to trick other players into doing SOMETHING. A lot of players panic when hexes are stacked on them and end up trying to fight. Even if they try to purge, that is why I cast elites first, then the rest, so when they purge they get rid of the most recent "less damaging" hex. I actually recommend you people to try this build as I was taking on two opponents at once while my team was off somewhere else and I degened both so far that they ran off only to die

Instead of Ineptitude (many criticisms here...) you can use Migraine. Those of you who said that they have trouble dealing with casters and melee simultaneously, look at the skill listing I wrote again as it covers both.

Cheers,

Hand

I will agree that Mesmers definately have the upper hand versus the Assassins... one run of Distortion, they miss their lead attack, and it's all down hill from there. The ritualists are a little more difficult since binding rituals aren't considered spells and most of them were running an anti-interrupt mantra. I either had to run Energy Denial against them or just go right after their spirits.
